After much anticipation, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has finally arrived on the big screen with a ton of excitement and expectations. The film, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo in lead roles, features Peter Parker in a world that doesn’t remember him. Taking place 4 years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in a world where everyone has forgotten Peter Parker thanks to Dr Strange’s spell, we see Spider-Man fighting crime anonymously while struggling to accept his friends moving on without him.
X, formerly Twitter, has been abuzz with viewers excited about what the new film brings to the table. As expected from a Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures release, reactions range from glowing praise to measured criticism. One user writes, @Mr_Kumar1208: “Spidey never fails my expectations. I enjoyed each and every frame of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Another user mentions: @mel_m375: “SPIDER-MAN BRAND NEW DAY WAS A 10 OUT OF 10 !!!”
Critics, too, praise Holland’s performance and the fantastic action sequences. One says, @Danimalish: “SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is the best Spider-Man film in over 20 years. Tom Holland gives his best performance yet as the webslinger. He’s shirtless in several scenes, which is amazing. The action is incredible. Destin Daniel Cretton directs with such panache. I loved this.”
The praise has been absolute when it comes to the action sequences. Several online portals and fans alike have excitedly mentioned that the action is worth the watch and will transport viewers right into the film. Meanwhile, Holland’s measured and emotional performance and relatable journey in a world where no one, include MJ and Ned, remembers him, gives him an interesting character journey, along with fighting the bad guys.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to be a more mature and emotional story where the story is as important as the action. Director Destin Daniel Cretton does a great job of balancing these parts well and the film’s humour, too, lands every time. However, it’s the emotional ending that leaves most viewers tearful. One X user writes, @ArvindUpdates: “Some movies entertain you. Spider-Man: Brand New Day breaks you. That ending is going to live rent-free in my head for a long time.”
Not just Holland, the other performances get praise as well. Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk receive widespread acclaim for their roles and chemistry with Holland. One user writes, @Skolney79: “#SpiderManBrandNewDay It’s very, very good. Not on the level of NWH, but really satisfying. Really delivers on all the emotional beats it has to. MVPs are Bernthal (where is my prequel with Spidey and Punisher getting into it) and Sadie Sink, who is PHENOMENAL. I get it now.”
Meanwhile, the results are already out on Rotten Tomatoes, where the film is Certified Fresh.

In the end, it’s clear that Marvel has been able to deliver a memorable film that perfectly balances humour, action and emotion through Peter Parker’s journey in a world where no one remembers him. The conversation around the film on different social media websites is proof that the team has been able to deliver a memorable watch that has brought on an onslaught of praise and many viewers appreciated the return to a more grounded Peter Parker story. Although there are some criticism, the overwhelming consensus is positive, which will help the film to gain more traction as the weeks go by.
