LIVE UPDATES: Heavy habagat rains, flooding continue to hit parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines – The southwest monsoon, or habagat, continues to bring heavy rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Friday, triggering flooding in several areas and prompting the suspension of classes in some localities.

Habagat could intensify further in the coming days as the state weather bureau forecast that a low pressure area may form inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) between Sunday and early next week.

  • Several LGUs have suspended classes on Aug. 14
  • Residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas are advised to monitor Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) and local disaster officials for warnings and evacuation orders.
  • Habagat continues to affect Luzon and the Visayas, bringing periods of heavy rain.
  • The number of deaths recorded by the Philippine National Police (PNP) from the onslaught of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Maymay and Luis has risen to 26, as of Aug. 11.
