MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27, outlining his administration’s achievements and priorities for the remaining two years of his term amid growing public demand for stronger action against corruption, lower food prices, and more job opportunities.
The President’s speech comes a year after his widely noted “Mahiya naman kayo!” warning against corruption in flood control projects.

- Surveys released ahead of the SONA show Filipinos want the administration to follow through with concrete reforms, while lawmakers are urging Marcos to go beyond promises by ensuring accountability, addressing inflation, and improving governance.
- Malacañang said this year’s SONA will be more austere, with no traditional red carpet, as government resources are being prioritized for the country’s Middle East crisis response.
- Vice President Sara Duterte will not attend because she is abroad.
- The Philppine National Police has deployed over 20,000 cops set to secure key areas while observing maximum tolerance during rallies.
- Huge mobilizations are expected from multisectoral groups, including Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Sanlakas and Better Brighter, which have obtained rally permits in designated parts of Commonwealth Avenue, which leads to the Batasan complex.
- To ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees, the House has also put in place extensive contingency measures throughout the complex.
- Before the SONA, both the House of Representatives and the Senate will open the second regular session of the 20th Congress at 10 a.m.
