What is the situation of the war right now?

We see Tanya and her group still on the front lines. Food comes to them, but it is only the bare minimum. Tanya also commented on the bad weather, and we could see that it snowed all the time. Hans and Kurt meet at a café and discuss the worrying situation of the army. They comment on the weather as well and how difficult it can become for the soldiers to fight.   Their discussion proves they realise that they are in a bad situation, but are still hopeful for a better future.

What was the strategy of the Federation?

Loria agrees to send forces to the volunteer army. His strategy is that he would rather have the Allied Kingdom working for the Federation than make an enemy out of them. This step would also act as propaganda, and the reason this could work is that almost everyone is against the Empire. Thus, Loria wanted to play the role of the good guy. Here, we also get to meet 2 new characters; one is Liliya, who gets introduced as someone loyal to the party. And Mikel, called a very capable mage. They then go to meet the representatives of the Allied Kingdom.

How did the Federation keep the Empire in check?

We learn that the people whose land the Empire seized helped the Federation launch surprise attacks against the Empire. On the other hand, Viktoriya also interviewed some of the prisoners of war and came up with a report that she presented to Tanya. She found out that almost all of them professed a disdain for communism, their nation’s ruling party. So the important question is, why do they still fight if they do not like their own government? Anya got the answer, and it completely shocked her.

What shocked Anya so much?

From the very beginning, Anya faced the Federation with an apparent disdain. She underestimated them because she thought she was only fighting a bunch of communists. However, in this particular section, she realises that the people she was fighting were die-hard nationalists. They weren’t fighting for a political party, but because they loved their country. She also realises that the way the Empire was fighting the war was only making the Federation stronger and nothing else.

Did Anya change her strategy?

Anya finally goes to her strategic headquarters and puts forward the proposition of making friends with the enemy’s enemy. Hans then approaches the occupied Federation citizens who already resent their own government and delivers a grand speech. He promised that the Empire would return the occupied lands to their rightful owners once the war was over. Surprisingly, they accept his promise without questioning it.

What worked and what did not work?

It’s no wonder the war is becoming more complex with every episode. Almost every nation has become involved in the conflict with the Empire, and after making so many enemies, it has finally found an ally. From a storytelling perspective, the anime continues to impress. The animation has also remained consistently good.
