House of the Dragon Season 3 Finale Reactions: House of the Dragon Season 3 has officially been released, and if the reactions on X (formerly Twitter) are anything to go by, Tumbleton Westeros has once again managed to leave the audiences emotionally exhausted, impressed, and confused all at once while somehow still asking for more.

There are television show finales, and then there is House of the Dragon – the kind that arrive with dragons, betrayals, death, political disasters and enough emotional damage to make you wonder why you willingly pressed play.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Wraps

Season 3 of House of the Dragon ended on Sunday with the Battle of Tumbleton finally exploding into the chaos viewers had been waiting for. House of the Dragon Season 3 finale brought together multiple corners of the war, from Daemon and the Winter Wolves to Ormund, Daeron, Gwayne, and the Starks, while the betrayal of Ulf Dragon took the brutal battle one step forward into turning it into a nightmare. HBO’s infamous House of the Dragon Season 3 concluded on August 9.

And X definitely had thoughts.

The Battle of Tumbleton Served the Chaos Everyone Expected

House of the Dragon Season 3 was not a safe play. The Battle of Tumbleton gave the audience dragons, shifting allegiances and destruction. The destruction was on such a scale that it made the entire season feel like it had finally reached a point of ‘no turning back’. 

X user @EIMismoDon_ pointing to Ulf Dragon’s betrayal, Hugh’s trajectory and the massacre on both sides summed up the experience after finishing House of the Dragon season finale and ended with collective pain at having to wait for two years.

Is that not ‘fair enough’?

@housethedragons had a considerably more immediate reaction to Ormund’s fate, posting about Roddy, the Ruination and Ormund’s brutal end. The only apparent response to House of the Dragon is watching something horrifying happen and immediately typing on X.

The Moment in House of the Dragon

For some viewers, the battle was not even the emotional centre. @57bx_ called the moment when Rhaenyra and Helaena realise what has happened to each other one of the greatest scenes in House of the Dragon history. Considering how much the show has invested in Helaena’s prophecy and Rhaenyra’s complicated power dynamics, it is easy to see why the moment landed right at the core.

A fascinating thing the same X user also pointed out is that the show’s opening sequence itself may have been quietly explaining the entire story all along— something like a project teaser.

The Ormund Appreciation

@DavidSCaballer2 had perhaps the most conflicted review among these. They called House of the Dragon one of the most “frustrating shows on television” while praising the performance and spectacles. The problem, he pointed out, is the clash between strengths and narrative choices.

But the X post also said, “the show will have a lot less panache without Ormund.” And somewhere in Tumbleton Westeros, someone might put that up on a T-shirt.

The Difficult Part to Ignore

For X user @anapau_villa, House of the Dragon season finale was a spectacle as well as a warning sign. They praised the Battle of Tumbleton, the decision to show the war from different perspectives, arguing that the plethora of viewpoints underlines just how chaotic the Dance has become. 

But the praise stops at Rhaenyra, as the user felt that the finale pushed her really fast towards the show’s version of “Cruel Rhaenyra”, arguing that her decisions felt less like calculated ruthlessness and more like terrible judgment. The user also praised performances while highlighting that the writing was the weakest element.

Are Fans Seeing History Repeat Itself?

@blewis1103 focused on Rhaenyra’s decent describing it as the most compelling part of Season 3 of House of the Dragon while also comparing it to what Daenerys’ trajectory would have looked like if Game of Thrones had a different season finale.

House of the Dragon Finale reactions wrap up exactly where Season 3 of House of the Dragon leaves us. While some viewers saw a spectacular war episode, others were frustrated by the script being cremated under the realm of television vibrancy. Some were shaken by the deaths, mourning Ormund, while some were already connecting the dots to Game of Thrones. And then some just stared at the screen with a “we have to wait for two years” face.

House of the Dragon Finale may have given different answers to every viewer, but it did give everyone a discourse and a reason to keep the arguments going long after the credits rolled out. Will House of the Dragon Season 4 bring more answers? We will just have to wait and watch!
