Emotional Storyline

Just when the kiss made us all get hyped up, Doctor on the Edge episode 6 wastes no time in throwing new obstacles at our dear Ji-ui and Ha-ri. The episode starts with Ji-ui and Ha-ri stepping into a relationship, only for Ha-ri’s grandmother to catch them and immediately disapprove of their romance. Now Ji-ui’s task is to earn the old lady’s trust.

But then comes the sad storyline: Grandmother Mi-ja. Mi-ja doesn’t really fear death, but she feels terrible that she is now a patient and not just Ha-ri’s grandmother. Her wish to simply remain Ha-ri’s grandmother until the end is heartbreaking and adds another layer of emotional depth to an already strong character.

Ji-ui isn’t the one to sugarcoat, and that’s why his character stands out. He is honest about the effects of Mi-ja’s conditions as he knows medicine can’t solve everything.

Governor Ko’s is Frustrating

Governor Ko continues to establish himself as one of the show’s most frustrating villains. We can see that rescuing Deok-hwa is literally a stunt. Rather than honouring Ji-ui’s bravery, he shifts the narrative, turning it into a campaign for a healthcare modernisation project.

The governor’s obsession with appearances becomes even clearer when Ji-ui is effectively transformed into a walking advertisement. The transfer to Yeo-poong strips him of his connection to his patients, and he is used only for interviews and photo opportunities. It is surprisingly depressing, especially after seeing how much he had grown attached to the island community.

Ji-ui and Ha-ri Stay Apart

Ha-ri and Ji-ui are forced to have a long-distance relationship due to his schedule. No misunderstandings are there; however, their loneliness is explored. Ha-ri drinking alone at their favourite spot while Ji-ui survives on cup noodles and endless PR events perfectly captures how distance can affect a relationship. Even though they care deeply for one another, their situations kill their vibe.

Ju-cheon and Eom’s Subplot is Charming

However, let’s talk about Ju-cheon and Nurse Eom. Their relationship seems to be progressing in a charming manner. What started as a quirky subplot has gradually become one of the show’s most entertaining dynamics. Ju-cheon’s awkward concern over her injury and his eventual drunken confession are both funny and surprisingly heartfelt. Their storyline provides some much-needed warmth amidst the heavier themes.

One Last Blow

Ji-ui returns to the island, and he decides to reject the governor’s healthcare project, which clearly isn’t for the benefit of the people. The reveal that he personally requested a transfer back is both unexpected and deeply satisfying.

What about Ha-ri and Ji-ui? Well, the reunion isn’t entirely joyful. The episode ends on a painful note when Ha-ri discovers that Ji-ui kept her grandmother’s decision about the clinical trial from her. She feels miserable and left out, but as viewers, we totally understand both their perspectives and the reasons.

Episode 6 excels at showing that love alone cannot solve every problem. Between political manipulation, difficult medical decisions and painful secrets, Ji-ui and Ha-ri’s relationship faces its first real test. The result is an emotionally rich episode that balances romance with meaningful character development.
