Carte Blanche coming up: Contract for Violence?

The Sunday, 24 May episode of Carte Blanche examines disturbing allegations surrounding a private security company operating in Durban’s CBD after a violent assault on a homeless man was captured on camera.

The footage allegedly shows masked officers beating the man with sjamboks before forcing him into the back of an armed response vehicle and driving away.

The man has reportedly not been seen since, while activists claim the case is part of a broader pattern of abuse targeting vulnerable people living on the streets.

With investigations said to have stalled, questions are mounting over whether authorities are ignoring alleged acts of violence carried out in the name of maintaining safety and order in the city centre.
