Synopsis
Wen Yin (Ivy Welman) was once a top student expected to gain admission to either Tsinghua or Peking University. But during the college entrance exam, an “accident” caused her to fail, and her parents deceived her into returning to their small hometown to get married. Just two months after the wedding, her husband died unexpectedly, and she soon discovered she was pregnant.
From then on, she endured her mother-in-law’s constant cruelty, her brother-in-law’s improper advances, and endless gossip in the town because of her beauty. When her daughter, Qianmo, lost her voice due to illness, Wen Yin decisively took her to Beijing to seek help from Lu Jianshen (Julian Lennard) — her late husband’s stepbrother with no blood relation — hoping to find treatment for the child’s damaged vocal cords.
As Lu Jianshen spends time with Wen Yin and her daughter, he becomes deeply drawn to Wen Yin’s resilience and clarity of mind, and grows especially attached to little Qianmo. Yet because of their complicated relationship and social boundaries, he can only suppress his feelings in silence.
