Comelec grants accreditation to MILF party for BARMM polls

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported no threats during the certificate of candidacy (COC) filing period for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections.

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has granted the accreditation of the political party of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to participate in the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections after facing disqualification petitions.

In a decision dated May 6, the Comelec denied the petitions separately filed by certain Sahabudin Panambulan Usop and Gasanara Dibaraten against the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP). 

“WHEREFORE, premises considered, the Commission (En Banc) RESOLVED, as it hereby RESOLVES to GRANT the Verified Manifestation of Intent in Lieu of a Petition for Registration for UNITED BANGSAMORO JUSTICE PARTY (UBJP) as a Regional Political Party for purposes of participating in the 2026 BARMM PE [Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Parliamentary Elections],” the 17-page decision read.

The decision came in the middle of the filing of certificates of candidacy for the parliamentary elections, which is scheduled from May 5-7, 2026. /dp
