Does Subaru manage to escape?
This episode begins with the moment when Subaru steps outside the tower to get away from all the bad things that have been happening to him. However, things again do not go smoothly as he quickly gets ambushed by a huge creature from the desert. Thankfully, before it could eat Subaru completely, it was attacked, and it died. Yet, this was not a great thing for Subaru. He gets sucked into the sand and gets buried within it.
Did Subaru die here?
No, surprisingly, Subaru was transported to another chamber that lies beneath the desert bed. He became very scared after reaching there, because all he could see were dead animals. Most likely, it was the chamber where the creature that tried to eat Subaru fed on its victims.
Subaru, again, panics in this state and runs to escape from his situation. After walking for what he felt like hours, he finally reached a wall, only to be disappointed with the journey.
Did Subaru manage to escape the underground chamber?
Yes, Subaru escapes the underground chamber, but this time he finds himself back within that tower. This whole scenario, where he is constantly dying and is unable to escape from his bad fate, weighed heavily on Subaru’s mind. He becomes paranoid and completely loses his psychological balance. He even decides that he would kill anyone and everyone, including his friends.
Laughing maniacally, Subaru tries to search for everyone so that he can kill them right away. However, what he sees shakes him to the core.
What does Subaru find?
Subaru sees that almost everyone had already been brutally killed by something. While searching, he locates their bodies one by one. In such a scenario, he finally finds Patrasche and decides to stab the creature. However, rather than attacking him, Patrasche actually saves him from an unknown entity. This entity arrives as a black fog and kills anything in its way. Patrasche even sacrifices itself to save Subaru.
Did Subaru get saved?
Even when Patrasche saved Subaru, someone else came to kill him and send him back. This time again, Subaru wakes up to find himself in front of Emilia and Beatrice. However, rather than speaking out and telling them that he does not remember anything, Subaru decides to play along. He does not disclose that he is not the Subaru they know and keeps his mouth shut. On the other hand, he tries to find out what or who is actually causing his death.
What worked and what did not work?
This episode was brutal right from the start, and its uncertainty keeps you hooked until the very end. I definitely preferred the first half over the second, but it makes sense that a bit of breathing room was needed after so much carnage.
I’m really curious to find out what led Subaru into this situation. The final twist was surprising, but it also felt a bit confusing, so I’m mostly waiting for the next episode to clear things up.
