Dream to You Episode 9 Review: Jealousy, Romance and a Shocking Family Truth

Oh thank goodness, the series has finally found a tad bit of spark with some entertaining scenes, allowing Soo-bin’s character to break free from his poker face. Regardless, some scenes are too familiar, similar to various famous K-dramas, and it’s such a turn-off. Regardless, it still works. Certain important plot secrets are revealed, leading to the next episode, which will be full of miserable conclusions.

Soo-bin’s Jealousy Takes Centre Stage

With Seung-moo returning to Yi-jae’s life, we finally see Soo-bin acting weird and awkward to keep his girlfriend by his side. Seung-moo wastes no time in trying to captivate his ex-girlfriend, Yi-jae. He brings her a food truck to celebrate her directorial debut; he recreates their memories from the past; he reminds her about how beautiful their relationship is, pinches her cheeks, holds her hand and even protects her during dodgeball.

He tries his best to win the girl back, and it ultimately leads Soo-bin to get irritated and pissed. He tries his best not to break Seung-moo’s face but professionally tries to keep the boundaries between him and Yi-jae. However, his insecurities do make him act out a bit, and that’s so cute to watch.

Soo-bin Finally Draws a Boundary

Soo-bin speaks with Seung-moo about how irritating his motives are. But the latter clearly seems to be enjoying how Soo-bin is feeling. Seung-moo tries to provoke Soo-bin, but he calmly tries to stop the past guy from keeping his hands to himself.

Later, when Yi-jae reassures him about his jealousy, Soo-bin admits to her that he feels pathetic when he’s trying to protect her from Seung-moo. He admits to her about his jealousy, showing how vulnerable he is to her. A character who used to suppress so many emotions is finally opening up. Now that’s a character development.

Yi-jae Chooses Soo-bin

The woman of the match clearly has her priorities set right. Seung-moo asks Yi-jae whether she still has feelings for her first love. And she says yes! She confesses to Seung-moo that she loves Soo-bin, and they’re making things work out well and good.

Overhearing this, Soo-bin walks to them both, holds Yi-jae’s hands and politely yet firmly asks Seung-moo to respect their relationship and walk out. Seung-moo understands and leaves Yi-jae’s chapter once and for all. Their relationship now feels considerably more secure, even though we know a breakup is going to eventually happen because that’s how K-dramas work.

Ha-na and Yu-geon’s Chemistry Grows

Oh, their romance is the best. They finally have their first kiss, and that’s the best part of this episode. The way they both feel nervous before the kiss is genuinely so cute to watch. And Ha-na making the first move? Go Girl!

The kiss leaves Yu-geon visibly mesmerised, but that’s also when the problem arises. He now feels completely lost as he’s still not sure about his feelings towards her. Later, however, when a drunk Ha-na tries to kiss Yu-geon, he pulls away, and this makes her yell at him for being a coward.

Their romance is complicated, but they do have true feelings for each other. Hopefully, Yu-geon finds himself and realises to run to Ha-na.

More Drama Outside the Romance

We have various other tiny storylines that happen around the main plot. We see Sa-rang breaking up with In-wook, which feels very abrupt and underdeveloped. Then we see Hwa-yeon’s panic attack and Cheol-gyu’s driver acting suspiciously, which shows us some big conflict is getting cooked. We’re soon going to have one more big issue that will eventually get sorted in the finale.

A Huge Family Revelation

And here comes the most awaited twist. Reporters suddenly swarm the film set and question Soo-bin about his biological mother. This makes Ha-na catch the heat as she discovers she is Soo-bin’s half-brother. This completely changes their relationship and the views of the people around them.

It is a very classic K-drama revelation, which often happens in various series. Now, the real question is, how is this relationship going to be relevant in this particular series? Will Ha-na and Soo-bin’s relationship cause trouble or unite families? Why is this dynamic change needed? Well, we will find out in the next few episodes.

Final Verdict

Dream to You Episode 9 Review: Lee Yul-eum

Overall, Episode 9 is an entertaining chapter of this series. It had a good amount of humour, romance and tension. However, the sports event in the town and the jealousy aspect felt too repetitive. Too many series have this second lead and main lead competing in a sports festival to captivate the female lead, who acts as if she has no clue. Man, that’s so boring.

Something more off about the drama is that in every episode, we’re uncovering different storylines, which makes the episodes feel packed. There are just too many stories that need closure, and hopefully the writers don’t rush it and lock it all in without proper development.
