Behind Her Eyes
If the feeling that there is always something lurking under an apparently ordinary family life is what pulled you onto Not a Stranger, Behind Her Eyes is a pretty good watch.
The six-episode Netflix limited series follows Louise, a single mother who becomes entangled with her psychiatrist boss and mysterious wife Adele. What begins as an affair and an unlikely friendship gradually turns into a psychological game where almost everyone seems to be hiding something.
The Perfect Mother
The 2022 French limited series follows a devoted mother who becomes convinced that her daughter is innocent after she is implicated in a homicide, but as the investigation continues, the distinction between victim and perpetrator starts becoming increasingly blurry.
The Perfect Mother is a neat companion to Not a Stranger as both place women inside intimate family situations where trust begins to crack, and once that crack appears, everything becomes suspicious.
Pieces of Her
Pieces of Her is a 2022 series that stars Toni Collette as Laura and Bella Heathcote as her daughter Andy, who begins uncovering disturbing truths about her mother’s past and slowly realises that the woman she thought she knew has been hiding an entirely different life.
This one has a particularly interesting conversation around motherhood itself.
The Watcher
The 2022 thriller, The Watcher, stars Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale as Nora and Dean Brannock. They make a couple who move their family into what should be their dream suburban home. However, threatening letters from someone calling themselves the Watcher turn their life into a nightmare.
The show understands the particular horror of discovering that the supposedly safe space of your family home is not safe at all.
