LIVE UPDATES: Impeachment trial of VP Sara Duterte | July 14, 2026

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate impeachment trial resumes Wednesday, July 15, with no witnesses expected to take the stand as both the prosecution and defense shift their focus to a key legal issue involving Vice President Sara Duterte’s bank and tax records.

During Day 6 of the proceedings, both the House prosecution and defense panels will present argument on whether the court should issue subpoenas for the records sought by the House prosecution in connection with Article II of the impeachment complaint, which alleges unexplained wealth and undeclared assets of the vice president.

Prosecution and defense will have 15 minutes each to deliver their respective oral arguments on the subpoena request. They will also be given 10 minutes each for rebuttal.

Senator-judges are expected to deliberate and rule on the request after hearing the parties’ arguments.

  • On Tuesday’s fifth day of the trial, the prosecution concluded its presentation under Article IV after National Bureau of Investigation Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc completed his testimony on Duterte’s alleged assassination threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and then-Speaker Martin Romualdez.
  • Prosecutors also withdrew two scheduled witnesses—Duterte chief of staff Atty. Zuleika Lopez and House Legislative Security Bureau Executive Director Capt. Belinda Bello—saying their testimonies had become unnecessary or merely corroborative following the evidence already presented.
