A Thai woman sought the arrest of her Indian boyfriend, accusing him of overstaying his visa, deceiving her into a relationship with him, and relying on her financially for more than three years.
The 34 year old woman, identified only as Dao, who works for a government agency in Nonthaburi, filed a complaint against her boyfriend, 28 year old Gurvinder Singh. She asked officers to arrest the Indian man for overstaying his visa.
Dao told officers she met Singh through a dating application about three years ago. She alleged he introduced himself as a university student in Singapore and claimed his family belonged to a wealthy, high-status family in India.
According to Dao, Singh said his family had funded his education in several countries, including Canada, Russia, Cyprus and Singapore.

She said Singh later told her he had completed his studies in Singapore but did not want to return to India, instead asking to move to Thailand to live with her.
After three to four months of communicating online, Singh travelled to Thailand and moved into Dao’s condominium in Nonthaburi.
Dao alleged that during the relationship Singh did not seek employment or contribute to household responsibilities. She also claimed his behaviour changed after they began living together, describing him as quick-tempered.

She said she supported him financially throughout their three-year relationship before deciding she could no longer continue.
Dao also warned others to exercise caution when using dating applications, saying her experience did not match the success stories she had heard from other users.
Following her complaint, immigration officers arrested Singh on Friday, July 3. Authorities found he had overstayed his visa by 1,201 days, or more than three years. His permission to remain in Thailand expired on March 19, 2023.

During questioning, Singh denied deceiving Dao. He told immigration officers he did not seek work because Dao had warned him he could be arrested if he worked illegally. He said he initially relied on his own savings before running out of money.
Singh also rejected claims that he had lied about his family’s financial position, stating that his mother operates a logistics business and owns several rental properties. He said he later asked his mother for financial assistance, but she refused. He added that he still loved Dao and denied ever harming her during their relationship.
Immigration officials said legal proceedings relating to the visa overstay will continue. Authorities plan to deport Singh after the case is concluded.
