Medusa Season 2 Review: Bigger secrets and melodrama converge as dangerous alliances, past trauma and more murders rock the members of the Hidalgo family in the midst of a power struggle. The series, with 12 episodes once again, follows the Hidalgo family as a dangerous new enemy goes after all the members for some reason. The question this isn’t is, well, who wants Barbara dead, but there seems to be something deeper at play.
The cast includes Juana Acosta, Manolo Cardona, Sebastián Martínez, Adriana Arango, Laura Archbold, Jacqueline Arenal, Luis Fernando Hoyos, Juanita Molina, Mabel Moreno, and Mariana Mozo. The series is created by Claudia Sánchez Morales and Said Chamie.

Medusa Season 2 Review
The Family Drama Gets Messier
The series leans further into the insanity that made the first season so bingeable. It’s silly, goofy, but its convinction into its storytelling and mystery-building makes viewers want to keep watching to see where it goes. Medusa reminded me of Beauty in Black in many ways because it takes its central mystery seriously to a point that you believe in the insanity that we see taking place on screen.
The Hidalgo family continues to be in the midst of it all as a dangerous enemy goes after Barbara and everyone connected to her. The relationships continue to be unstable, and personal decisions start to affect the company in surprising ways. Barbara’s own personal struggles also become the focal point of the story, as we see her struggling to connect with Maya while a blast from the past turns her already difficult life more difficult.

More Twists, More Betrayals, More Secrets
The entire series continues to throw secrets at you at every turn, and things just continue to get more and more complex. Most of it feels unnecessary, but viewers will find themselves on a rather entertaining ride. Melodrama is the name of the game in the series, and characters constantly find themselves caught between family loyalty and self-interest. The focus is mostly on complex relationship dynamics, betrayal, manipulation and a ton of sex, with so many twists and turns that it’s almost unbelievable. For viewers who enjoy something more understated and actually sensible, this might feel overwhelming and unnecessary at times.

But then again, the series isn’t trying to be a quiet thriller. It knows its audience and what it’s offering and doubles down on it, giving casual viewers of thriller shows something engaging to watch without getting too deep into the plot. Things are mostly straightforward without expecting too much from its viewers. Medusa Season 2 is a high-stakes family saga that has elements of a thriller.
The Mystery Still Keeps Things Moving
Danger’s investigation and an assassin constantly trying to get rid of Barbara and the Hidalgo family keep things moving for the most part. While nonsensical sometimes, there’s a lot of movement and anticipation about who is getting shot next, which keeps the runtime constantly thrilling and engaging. The Hidalgo family’s complicated history, furthermore, makes rooting for any of these characters difficult. There’s another subplot involving a hallucinogen that is sometimes unwittingly hilarious. Either way, the Hidalgo family has enough bad apples to keep the story moving.

A Glossy Thriller That Knows What It Wants to Be
Visually, Medusa Season 2 remains stunning. Like season 1, the series looks excellent and pulls you into the story with its beautiful aesthetics. The contrast between the family’s wealth and social standing, in comparison to the dangers that they face and other circumstances make it appealing. The Colombian setting, too, gives the series a lot of personality and makes it stand out.

Final Verdict
In the end, Medusa Season 2 is a thrilling family drama and not the other way around. It’s a melodramatic watch that knows what it wants to be and delivers exactly that. While it has its entertaining moments, as a series, it’s nothing new or thought-provoking, but it makes for a great mindless watch.
