The Love Hypothesis Review on X: Cute, Awkward; X Seems Divided

The Love Hypothesis Review on X: Prime Video’s The Love Hypothesis, adapted from Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling romance novel, has finally been released. It brings Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen’s fake dating experiment from the pages of a romance novel to our screens.

Directed by Claire Scanlon, the film stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith and Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen. If we go by the X reviews, there seems to be no single way, but X users have different opinions.

The Love Hypothesis Review on X: The Chemistry Debate Is Real

For some viewers, the answer is a very enthusiastic yes. X user @123lili234 came away impressed by the central pairing, writing that Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman’s “awkwardness and chemistry was perfect they bounced off each other really great in this film. I actually really ended up enjoying this film”.

The awkwardness itself seems to be the entire point.

Another X user, @archivepik, described the film as “super light, super fresh”, praising its rom-com energy and the awkward interactions between the leads. They also added, “the bestie dynamic between Olive and Anh is so spot-on”.

But then comes the other side of X.

“Where Is the Love?”

User @BinduRai seemed less convinced, calling it a film experiment that “ropes in 2 physically good looking ppl who simply lack the chemistry for a true blue romance.” The user seemed to be looking for love, angst and buildup.

The review perhaps implies that you can have two attractive people, a fake relationship, a bestselling book, and all the necessary ingredients but still forget to bake the cake.

Then There Are People Giving It 5 Stars

User @messicaraz gave The Love Hypothesis a 5/5, praising the acting, script, direction and chemistry. They wrote, “Executed perfectly from acting, script, directing and the CHEMISTRY”. The review even called it “ANOTHER WIN FOR THE REYLO FANDOM”.

Book Fans Seem Happy

For readers, adaptation is always a terrifying question.

X user @outro_alex thought the film was adorable and wrote, “really did the book justice”, although they felt that the conflict felt rushed, with only about 20 minutes given to resolving it. 

Honestly, it feels like a very book-reader criticism because when you have read it fully, you might not want more plot but more time for it to cook well; more glances, conversations and more tiny moments.

The Barbie Doll Olive

X user @vlezvs raised the funniest criticism of all: Olive is supposedly an awkward character, but the user wrote, “her character is supposed to be an awkward homebody no one was interested in, meanwhile the whole science department if not the entire school should be tripping over themselves trying to earn her affection” while resharing pictures with a caption “if a barbie doll made a wish to be human”.

Honestly, the vision and comparison seem true.

So, Is The Love Hypothesis A Win?

According to the current wave on X (at the time of writing this), most users seem to like the movie as a whole but with a few suggestions, like wanting more time to resolve the conflict; however, a user has even questioned the chemistry between the central leads, while a few others seem to like it.

The Love Hypothesis may not completely satisfy everyone looking for a painstakingly developed slow-burn, but there is perhaps something charming about a film that knows what kind of romance it wants.

Users had different experiences: some enjoyed it; called it fresh; thought it did justice to the book; gave a 5/5; wanted more love, buildup and angst; and honestly, between all those reactions is probably The Love Hypothesis itself.
