MANILA, Philippines – As the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte enters its 28th day, the defense team will cross-examine prosecution witness Gerardo del Rosario, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Company Registration and Monitoring Department.
Del Rosario testified Monday about businesses linked to Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio, as the House prosecution panel sought to establish allegations of unexplained and undisclosed wealth.

- During Day 27 of the trial, del Rosario said eight remaining businesses of Duterte had no audited financial statements submitted to the SEC.
- The witness also testified that Duterte remained an incorporator and director of Metro City Chow Foods Corp. after she assumed the vice presidency in 2022. The company appeared in Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth from 2022 to 2025.
- Del Rosario cited Article VII, Section 13 of the 1987 Constitution, which bars the president and vice president from holding another office or employment and from directly or indirectly practicing another profession or participating in any business during their tenure. The provision also requires them to avoid conflicts of interest.
- Former Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang previously testified that Duterte should have divested from her businesses before taking her oath as vice president.
