Preparations for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will continue under the current election calendar unless a new law is enacted changing or postponing the Nov. 2 polls. Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair George Erwin Garcia said enough time is needed to distribute election materials to far-flung areas such as Mindanao. He hoped a final decision would be made before the filing of candidacies from Sept. 8 to Oct. 5. “This is how critical it is, that’s what we’re saying, and hopefully, without pressuring anybody, that there would be a clear law before September 28. Aside from any other reasons, by first week of October, we should already be delivering materials to far-flung areas,” Garcia said. —CHELSY CLAIRE PEREZ
