Sundowns in-form star Jayden Adams ruled out for the season

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams will play no further part in the Betway Premiership this season after receiving a red card against Kaizer Chiefs in midweek.

The in-form midfielder has been handed a three-match suspension, ruling him out for the remainder of Sundowns’ league campaign.

Masandawana have two league fixtures left as they continue their push to retain the Betway Premiership title.

They are set to face Siwelele FC and TS Galaxy before turning their attention to the CAF Champions League final against AS FAR later this month.

Adams has been one of Sundowns’ standout performers during the second half of the season, with his impressive form earning him a recall to the Bafana Bafana squad. However, he is still expected to be available for the CAF Champions League final.

With the 24-year-old sidelined for the final two league matches, coach Miguel Cardoso is likely to rely on Siphelele Mkhulise and Bathusi Aubaas, both of whom have struggled for regular game time this season.

Sundowns could also be without defender Keanu Cupido, who picked up an injury during the 1-1 draw against Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

Adams to miss rest of Sundowns league games this season

In addition to Adams and Cupido, players such as Thapelo Morena could also miss the clash against Siwelele due to injury concerns following the physical encounter with Amakhosi.

If the Brazilians fail to secure maximum points in their remaining matches, their hopes of winning a record-extending eighth consecutive league title could be in serious danger.

Pressure may also mount on Cardoso, who could face scrutiny should Sundowns fall short in both the league and the CAF Champions League.

Will Adams absence affect the team?
