Mazwi Mpumelelo Kubheka has been located after nearly a month of being missing.
Gauteng police confirmed on Saturday evening, 02 May 2026, that Kubheka presented himself at the Vosloorus Police Station.
His alleged kidnapping case has made headlines in recent days, with his family claiming he was taken following a dispute involving spaza shop owners. However, details surrounding the alleged kidnapping remain unclear at this stage.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
“He, who was allegedly kidnapped after a spaza shop dispute, has been found and is at the Vosloorus Police Station. He presented himself at the police station this evening,” Gauteng police said in a brief statement.
Kubheka was reported missing on 2 April 2026 after leaving home to deposit money at a bank. He was last seen in Marimba Gardens, and despite a missing persons case being opened and two individuals being questioned, no arrests had been made.
His family had raised suspicions about foreign-owned spaza shop operators, although no evidence has been publicly confirmed.
Kubheka had recently taken over a shop previously rented by foreign nationals after they were allegedly forced out by members of the community.
His family believes the 27-year-old may have been targeted following a dispute over the occupation of the shop.
