Kaizer Chiefs next coach: Three candidates to take over

Kaizer Chiefs are on the lookout for a new head coach for next season, as co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze are expected to depart in the coming weeks.

The duo took over from Nasreddine Nabi in September after the Tunisian was suspended. In October, the club and Nabi parted ways, promoting Ben Youssef and Kaze from assistant coaches to head coaches.

Their main objectives were to win at least one trophy or secure a spot in the CAF Champions League. With four matches remaining in the league, Amakhosi can still clinch a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. However, the Champions League positions are already filled.

Having won the Nedbank Cup last season, Kaizer Chiefs will end this campaign without any silverware after being eliminated from both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup in February.

Here are three candidates for the Kaizer Chiefs coaching position:

Pitso Mosimane

Jingles is still available and has always shown interest in coaching the Soweto giants. He hasn’t been associated with any club since May of last year, and over a year later, this opportunity might be a perfect fit for the 62-year-old coach.

Manqoba Mngqithi

The former coach of Mamelodi Sundowns has extensive experience in the PSL and would likely welcome another chance to coach at a prestigious club. He was linked with the Amakhosi in recent weeks, but it remains to be seen if he would leave his current position at Golden Arrows for Kaizer Chiefs.

Marcel Koller

The Swiss coach could be a viable option for the Naturena-based side after parting ways with Al Ahly. Koller has experience with CAF Champions League victories, and if Amakhosi aim to dominate in Africa, they should consider hiring the 65-year-old mentor.
