Julius Malema, president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has ordered Ngizwe Mchunu to issue a public apology and pay R1,000,000 in damages within 24 hours over defamatory remarks made against him.
In a statement issued by Malema’s legal team on Thursday, 30 April 2026, failure to comply would result in legal action being instituted.
Malema’s lawyers wrote to Mchunu after he alleged that Malema received R60 million from Nigerian drug dealers.
Mchunu made the claims on the sidelines of an anti-illegal immigration protest organised by the March and March movement in Pretoria on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
In an interview that circulated widely on social media, Mchunu alleged that Malema was being protected because of money he reportedly received from criminal networks.
Malema has strongly denied the allegations, describing them as untrue, malicious, and damaging to his reputation.
“We demand a retraction, public apology, press statement, and R1,000,000 in damages within 24 hours, failing which legal action may be instituted,” Malema’s legal team said.
