Synopsis
Su Jixiang, a modern-day food blogger, unexpectedly transmigrates into the body of a lowly palace maid confined to the Cold Palace. Her original plan is simple: lie low, endure until the age of twenty-five when she can leave the palace, open her own restaurant, and live a carefree, wealthy life. However, her plans are shattered when the Prince of Huainan launches a rebellion. The emperor flees, and Su Jixiang is left behind as part of the deposed regime’s remnants.
To survive, she volunteers to cook for the rebel army. Using her expertise in medicinal cuisine, she carefully treats General Wei Ling’s chronic stomach illness. In an attempt to check Wei Ling’s power, the Prince of Huainan arranges a forced marriage between Su Jixiang and the general, then exiles them both to a harsh and desolate frontier under the pretext of military deployment.
Wei Ling once believed that after a lifetime of turmoil, his fate would end in this bitter, remote land. Yet everything changes when he meets Su Jixiang—a woman who not only cooks extraordinary meals but is equally capable in a fight. As they grow closer, danger strikes: the Turks, colluding with traitors inside the city, launch a night raid on Mang City. Wei Ling rescues Su Jixiang from a raging fire, and later, she shields him from an arrow, suffering a deadly poison in the process. In desperation, Wei Ling risks his life to save her, and in doing so, the two finally confess their true feelings.
In the end, Wei Ling leads the Black Tiger Army to capture the capital, executes the Prince of Huainan, and restores order by supporting a new emperor’s ascension. Having survived turmoil and bloodshed, the two choose to withdraw from power and return to Mang City, where they reopen “Jixiang Restaurant” and spend the rest of their lives together, immersed in the simple joys of everyday life.
